You Internet Presence Model / Top Misconceptions - [content removed by moderator for being self promotional]

I was wondering if I could get your insight on this matter...I am preparing a few classes to help real estate agents in the office to plan and start their own internet presence. Nothing too technical, mostly going around basic principles, ideas and strategies.
This specific slide is about trying to clear up the misconcpetions about developing an internet presence for agents.
I think a lot of those misconceptions are coming from very misleading vendors outthere trying to sell whathever they have to sell (i.e. we will send you 10,000 visitors for $24.85...this is the type of traffic you should expect,, that easy, blahblahblah... )
Ok, I am going first, I think one of the biggest misconceptions outhere is thinking that an agent could develop his/her entire internet presence all for free...
What about you? what do you think are the biggest misconceptions in the internet area for real estate agents?

SEO is not easy and there is no magic pill. What you always should remember is that you get what you pay for.

The best way to do your SEO is to either learn how to do the work yourself (and make no mistake - it is work) or to hire someone that comes with high recommendations.

SEO work is the equivalent of your lawn sign, open house postings, postlets, etc. If it is done poorly, your site will never be found.

If you are considering hiring someone to do the work for you, ask them to provide you with their resume, some references and ideally, some samples of the work they have done (some clients will prefer that information to remain confidential - but the service provider should be able to give you some samples).

Additionally, ask the provider what types of progress reports you will be provided. All of my clients receive in depth reporting at the start of the contract, to set a benchmark, and then progress reports, as agreed (most get a monthly report).

Hope this helps!
Good luck!

You pay $$ and get instant results.  It is hard work with little return even if you do it right.  You ROI will be less than you expect.  Find you niche and market that only.  If you go general then you are another sheep in the large feild.

hi cathy! i wanna tell you something. I don't think you oughta waste time on the net unless  it's free. if it isn't, then they're pushing the wrong business model. That model won't do you any good unless you've lots of listings to unload right away. stick with this site, and tell us if it ever does you any good!

I think you can develop it for free if you have a lot of time and a passion for it.  You could spend 2 hours a day for the next year doing things like answering these zillow questions  or putting ads on craigslist and eventually you will rank pretty well for the keywords you are targeting, or at least have a strong presence on a site like Z or trulia

I agree that you get what you pay for.  The most important thing is to do research and be certain of what you are investing in before you take the plunge.
