Zestimate Modification Date

Profile picture for Gregory14
Does anyone know on what date of the month, or how frequently the Zestimate on any particular single property is modified?

On the home details page of whatever property you are looking at, there is a "last updated date" a couple lines below the zestimate module on the lower right of the page.

Zillow used to update the Zestimates quite often. Now it has not been done since Sept 11. Moving forward, how often/frequently will it be done? This is the second part of the original question.

Yes, I'm wondering too if anyone at Zillow.com could give us a pointer here.
Even if the numbers are not the most accurate, it was interesting to see at least the general direction of the movement a little more frequently. Twice a month (regularly not in average) would be nice especially these unstable times. Does this slowdown in updates mean that Zillow.com is phasing out or is it a planned perhaps temporary slowdown.
In other note, please ignore the whiners about Zillow.com's inaccuracy. Everybody in their right mind knows that estimating home values is not an exact science and yes there will be mistakes made unless someone is willing to put down the money every couple weeks for an official appraisal.

At this point, we are trying to update Zestimates once a week. The frequency of updates has nothing to do with the state of the market -- the reasons we haven't updated Zestimates every week recently are all technical issues.

What would be really nice is if the "last updated" date were somewhere on the front Zillow page. I occasionally like to compare a list of several properties, and the only way to see if there is an update (besides memorizing the existing Zestimates) is click on one and then look for that tiny "last updated" string. Why not put this apparently global date smack-dab on the Zillow.com front page (or even on the My Zillow tab. . .)?

here's the truth folks (and "drew")...

the zillow algorithm, somewhere in its obscure depths, divides some quantity by the number of homes sold in an area. In recent weeks, this numer has been, well, ZERO.

divide by zero and the whole darn thing blows up on ya, see!

what zillow needs are good programmers. look at the maps guys - you show one price on a map, and then when you click on the property its a totally different price.

so when that divide by zero happens, the zilly algorizm juz makez up ze numberz....mozt timez theyz juz plain wrongzzzzzz

To Drew...yes I know Zillow used to update weekly since I have monitored your site since May 2006. You say they will be returning to that format, but when should the viewers expect that to happen? Technical issues are always a problem but clearly the powers that be at Zillow have asked your IT people for some answers!

luddite-
Do you have a specific property where you have seen the map price different than the price on the home details page? If so, please post it here so that we can look into it. As I said before, the delays have nothing to do with the number of sales occurring in an area.

For the record, this is the 1st I've heard of differing zestimates on the map and the home details page for the same house. Unless you have a specific property for us to look at, we can't help you.

ok "drew", you really want to be difficult dont you? not a very good posterboy for your outfit, now, really, making US do all the work. is that the development model now?

try this one, honey:

1333 n. orange dr
los angeles, CA 90028

by the way, i got this home by typing "los angeles" in the city/state/ZIp search box, hitting enter and max zooming into the los angeles area map. the house is right there in the middle of the screen. $838K on the map; $866K when you click on it. works the same for any house any bl**dy where.

Question: Is the regular monthly or weekly update for *price change* the same update that will include *corrected assessor information from the county?* It's been almost a year since I made the changes at the county office -- I was told this info is available to Zillow only once a year, after the tax bills come out -- which they now have. Will the next update incorporate all these changes? I'm getting tired of seeing a Zestimate for a house other than mine and only being able to see comps for this other older, smaller house (which was scraped 10 years ago in order to build mine) that I don't live in but which has my address. Thanks. I'm seeing that the last update was 9/11 - today is 10/11. Please tell me I won't have to wait even longer. It's already been 8 months. d.

Hey there, Drew.
Been waiting months now for some accurate Zillow figures in our area and the algo fixes we were promised.
According to Zillow, every home along our stretch has supposedly increased in value except for the neighbor just across the street and our own home, which have fallen in the numbers although they are the exact same vintage & configuration as everybody else (if not better).
Activity along this stretch (refi, sale, fc) has been ZERO so why are the numbers being adjusted (a) at all and (b) inconsistently?
Just fyi, Zillow is as incorrect as ever. I can understand why folks are starting to complain to your advertisers.

Zillow stopped updating bi-weekly when the market tanked. What did they get a call from Bernanke; - "Guy's your killing us by showing everyone so clearly that the real estate market is falling off a cliff, how about making up some inflated values or just stop changing them for a while?"

I'm sure the realtors are calling too: "Hey you want us to yank our ads"

And home owners just feel sick as dogs when they look. So they just stop looking. None of this is good for business.

Solution:

The big 30 day price change went from the top of the page to the bottom and from BIG BOLD type to very little hard to find type.
Also around the same time the Zestimates became curiously high and lost any relationship to sales in the area. I think the updates are monthly 'if you are lucky' now under the theory that yesterday's prices are certainly better than today's.

Come on guys - technical problems - no.

the "technical" problem is that zillow'z just hibernatin' for the fall...
their kiddo "algorithm" blowz up when sales drop abyzzmally.
think divide by zero (zero being number of recent sales)

alzo, severe pressure on reveniez from realtor(TM) advertz - "keep your valuationz up or elze we'll pull out..."
