Zestimates in the Jersey Shore AreaI am concerned about the accuracy (or possible inaccuracy) of the "Zestimates" in the Jersey Shore area; specifically Ship Bottom, NJ where my home is located. I believe the Zestimates are based on homes being sold in the area with comparable basic amenities. However, many of the homes being sold in this area currently are homes that have been remediated following Hurricane Sandy, and are stripped of interior walls, kitchen cabinets and appliances, bathroom facilities, and even electricity. Therefore homes that would generally sell in the 700k-900k range are now being offered at 400k-500k, but are not in move-in condition. Further, many of these homes will require 'raising' in order to secure flood insurance coverage, which is necessary with a mortgage. This is, therefore, bringing down the Zestimate on my home, which suffered NO damage, is move-in ready, situated high above flood level, and fully furnished. I am concerned that Zillow is misleading potential buyers into believing I have my home overpriced.
