Sounds like you have a home that's been Zillowed! If you want an accurate valuation, contact an expert in your area. They'll provide one for you without charge.

I'm sure most of you know about this already but Zillow actually grades itself on accuracy for each city it serves. Go to:

Currently it covers a wide area, and is generalized in some areas. I dont think anywhere it says it is perfect. I think it is great for generalized info to find quickly.

I'm curious to know on what Zillow bases its information. The house next door is identical to mine and both are equally well maintained. According to Zillow it's worth $10,000 more than mine. The house across the street - identical except for the fact that it doesn't have a pool (like my neighbor and I do) - is worth $28,000 more! Go figure.

I think that the forum is one most valuable part of the site too, but I am a little biased ;) I always get quick help when I ask a question and lots of honest opinions. I appreciate having the recently sold history for houses and the Zindex on Zillow. I find both really helpful in doing research about value in an area and on individual houses.

I have found Zillow to be a great all in one site. I have had questions and the blogs have been fast to answer. The taxes and last sold price are accurate in my area and the estimated price was with in $5K of appraisel not bad from an arial shot and 10 year old purchase history.
Way to go Zillow.....

Nancy Lee,
Why do you assume I'm mad? Until Zillow put's people in areas where they can understand what's happening in a neighborhood I believe the broad base of numbers they put out there are unrealistic. Between reo's, short sales, auction properties, back door deals, foreclosures and an occasional true sale their numbers determine a price which is unrealistic. It's difficult enough in this market and having someone throwing out numbers like they do is bad information.

I think zillow's zestimates may be a little higher than what it is but considering it's computer generated, it's not bad at all.

What a pair of geniuses the Somers Team must be when they can't even follow the no promotion policy on Zillow link. You think they would get a clue when they see [content removed by moderator for being self promotional] over and over again from site mods in their discussions.

Actually Zillow is accurate but only some of the time. And some of the time is just not enough! When they are not accurate it impacts buyers and seller in a very negative way. I agree they need to be more detail oriented about their Zestimates and regarding details about addresses and location. The 3 most important surface aspects for Buyers and Sellers of Real Estate are:
1) Location
2) Price
3) Appearance
Zillow gets it wrong folks. I can say that even though I pay to subscribe to Zillows extra features. That is why consumers need to consult a local Real Estate specialist in their area. A human being not a huge cyber system that does not have the ability to tailor Estimates and review Market Statistics with a knowing eye.

I think, given the complexity and scope of zillow's goals, it is remarkably accurate. The broad range of specialists who give of their time to answer questions on these boards, and who truly care about the answers, elevate zillow 'way beyond the original objectives. I also think a lot of people bring their own goals and agenda's to zillow and, instead of seeking to understand what is available, get mad when they do not find what they, personally, are looking for.

No, I'd put World Net Daily and Free Republic up there as well.
