Check the contract before you sign with a listing agent.  If you already signed, pull out your copy of the contract and see what you signed.  Different locations have different policies, rules. and laws.

Most of the time listing your home with an agent is risk free, in other words you only pay an agent if the home sells. But make sure to discuss this with any agent before signing a contract. Your area my be different then the norm.
