Zillow has numerous means by which to identify and take down sold listings.

On the rare chance you encounter a listing that's still on Zillow despite being sold, flag it as a stale listing.

Go to the property page > Click EDIT > Click REPORT PROBLEM WITH LISTING > Click 'Not for sale' or 'sold'.

We'll 86 the listing.

As Zillow is not an MLS site, removing it from the MLS does not remove it from Zillow.   The agent must take the next step and know which feeds they have going out to other non-MLS sites to remove it.   If they don't know the feed going to Zillow, they can open the home details page and find the listing source at the very bottom of the page.

I do not believe that just reporting a listing as sold on the MLS automatically stops the feed to Zillow or automatically reports the sale. There is information on maintaining a feed on Zillow here that might explain more.

No, sold listings are not regularly removed from Zillow.  If you are interested in a home which turns out to be sold then I suggest you click on "Edit" under the listing photo and then click on "Report problem with listing."

As has been explained, they are not updated hourly as some other sites, like [website removed by Zillow moderator]

No I do no believe  they are. You have to manually update listings b/c Zillow does not get feeds from local MLS's

Unfortunately, too many agents don't know this, and home buyers get upset, understandably.

The listings on Zillow are under control of the agents or owners who initiated the listing.  Therefore, some agents are better than others at removing their listings.      Zillow also has ways to expire listings, but it is automated.
