I always recommend getting a quote with a local independent insurance agent. They will have access to several companies and will be able to provide you with a competitive rate. Combining your home and auto policies can also save you a good deal of money depending on the company.

The Wall Street Journal has recently written about some important changes to the way insurance companies are writing their homeowners policies. If you're looking to make a change, it's worth thinking about.

I agree with Ruth, having your insurance with one company will usually get you the best rates. State Farm has been writing homeowners insurance for over 60 years. Today, we insure about 13.5 million homes. We offer broad protection that you can trust, plus affordable rates, and outstanding service.

Farmers will give you discounts for combining home, auto and life insurance so working with one company can help you get the best rates.

best price, best to assist you in case of a claim, best financial rating, best to pay out claims properly? If you have a relationship with your agent and he/she has pull within the company to help you if needed, and you're not paying way over average for coverage I'd probably stay put. You can always shop around for quotes and check the net for customer satisfaction. best of luck
