There are many things to consider when buying a home, location, your budget, schools, commute, etc. and for that reason, one of the best things a Buyer can do is work with a Buyer's Agent to find the home that meets YOUR requirements. There is no cost to the Buyer, as the Seller generally pays the commission.

A Buyer's Agent can help you find homes that are new on the market, and provide you with current sales information to help you get the best price.  An Agent's knowledge and experience may prevent you from making costly buying mistakes.  For example, do you know about the current plumbing requirements in Dekalb County?  If you do not, that alone could cost you several thousand dollars by buying on your own!

Ask people you know for referrals, and find someone you like and trust to work with, but only work with one Agent, as all Agents have access to the same information.  The Listing Agent is obligated to represent the Seller, and you should have someone who only represents you.

Buying a home can be a fun and rewarding experience, but most people only do it a few times in their life, and that makes it difficult to be an expert. My advice is to find someone who is.  An Agent will handle all the details so that you can concentrate on finding your dream home!
