can a sellers lawyer kill our purchase ???

we put in an offer, seller accepted. it was less than what they owed putting it into a short sale. after doing the home inspection and putting in 5000 cash, here we sit with no house and lawyers and agents not returning calls. we were told by our agent a month ago to google the sellers lawyer, odd, but we did it. only to find out he was arrested for stealing money a year and a half ago. our agent says he cant contact the seller to inform them of this because its unethical ...... so what am i paying for ???  how can an entire law firm go away ? not return calls ?  we are told the sellers lawyer is the hold up on us closing. do we have any rights here ? we love the house but we are scared and confused as ever now......we dont even trust our lawyer, again he came with the agent (package deal) we dont know anyone in the area so we trusted the agent fully.    please someone help

Why don't you contact your local real estate board and see what they suggest.

You definitely need a REPUTABLE and LOCAL Real Estate Attorney. Ask you agent to provide some refererrals. Most real estate companies know good local attorneys.

I agree with Pat -- consult a local RE attorney familiar with your particular area and give him/her all the facts/paperwork.  You'll get a much more accurate response.

I suggest that you retain your own attorney, one who handles residential real estate matters.
