Working overseas and buying house for investment would not necessarily be an issue. Your citizenship status, how paid - i.e. US dollars, company you work for and work history, credit score, reserves, income to debt ratio etc would all be criteria.
Put a request on Zillow and find loan officer that you feel has the knowledge and competence to assist you with a Pre Approval.
