In other words, if you want to put in an offer on a home that listed in this manner, you should probably have your own agent and not rely on the listing agent to represent you. Mom would never forgive him.

Licensed REALTORS are bound by a Code of Ethics which states that we must disclose potential conflicts of interest in writing.  If I am the listing agent for my mother's home, for example, I may have a vested interest in the sale of this home. By making the public, including other REALTORS, aware up front that the listing agent is related to the owner, i.e., Agt/Rel to Own disclosure, there can be no room for misunderstanding before, during or after the sale. Disclosure in real estate transactions encourages transparency and an added sense of propriety.
