Hi Jeff,
I've done campaigns for clients that wanted a particular area or home and have had some success. Any one of us would be happy to contact an owner for you to see if they are willing to sell.

I actually did this 5 years ago. I drove past a home that I thought I had to have and wondered daily if it would ever go up for sale. I finally sent the owner a letter telling them how much I admired their home and that if they ever thought of selling if they would please let me know. I received a return letter the next week thanking me for my letter to them and eventhough they had no intention of selling in the near future they have my name and # and I actually receive an xmas card from them every year. Write the letter if you haven't already done so it may work out for you!

Dan makes a great point. You'll never know if you don't ask. If they're not interested in selling for market value, they may respond to a more generous offer (how much more is subjective). There are those that won't sell at any price, but they are few and far between in my experience. As they say, money talks.

You can always send a letter. Explain how you grew up there and would be interested in buying the house at a fair price. The present owners may never want to sell. They may sell now. If you do not get a reply do not feel bad. The present owners may just want to live there forever and no price would convince them to move out.
can you inquire or perhaps buy a house that isnt on the market?
