I would think that one of you bought something large. We always counsel our buyers not to buy anything before they own a house.  You need to talk to your loan officer to find out if one of you can qualify for a loan without using the other person's income. The loan officer will start from scratch with the loan pre-approval.

Maybe, but the problem is usually that it also drops that person's income and changes the debt to income ratio.
