Zillow restated their estimate for my house in Phoenix overnight from 180,000 to 70,500.  Then they made an announcement that their estimates are now "even more accurate".  So their position is that they were off by 60% last week and now they are even more accurate.  That's like saying asparagus is more eloquent than carrots.  All previous estimates and price history has been dumped down the memory hole so there's no way to tell from looking at the site that their number was ever 150% higher than it is now.

It is meant to serve as one data point the evaluation of pricing ones home.  Zillow understands it can't substitute for someone walking in and seeing the granular aspects of your home but it does give a give overrall macro shot of how your neighborhood is doing.

Sorry to hear this.

I checked your property and it doesn't show as for sale on Zillow. For sale listings should have a red flag with a selling price but your home doesn't have this. The price history of your home even shows that the listing was removed from the system since 10/02/2010.

Neat resource? get real. I've seen my home, NOT FOR SALE, listed here for 8 months. I requested that they remove it and they said "O sure".

Check it out. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/817-Hickory-Way-Noblesville-IN-46062/73215970_zpid/

it's, yes, STILL there.

so, it's useful for the semi- and fully-unconscious

Use zillow for trend and averages within a city or area code. It is a really quick way to get a rough feel for the city's direction and past changes.

I don't rely on individual zillow house values, but I do use it to look for higher priced or lower priced area relative to surrounding. It is a quick way to roughly find the sub areas within a city that I do not specialize in.

I think it is a pretty useful and neat site, as long as you understand it's limitation and how to use it.

Deep breaths and count to 10

I don't think it sucks at all.  Zillow is a great site that offers the consumer an easy place to view most public records and homes for sale without any cost.  Their Zestimate although not very accurate is a good starting point in valuing property.  Overall it is a very easy to use site packed with useful information.

Probably not. Also, it's fairly easy to claim your home and update the info. You can find out how to claim your home, and there is a discussion on Zestimates and your own estimates, here

I doubt it, but then I don't know how to quantify your "as much"!

Zillow has strengths and limitations, as does every other website out there.
