A 25 x 24 patio would be beautiful and a nice improvement to a home, thereby making it more appealing at resale time-especially in the seasons without snow.
When I show buyers homes that the owners never bothered to put a patio in, it seems like such a waste. I can only imagine them spending too much time watching tv, playing video games and getting sucked into their computer, instead of enjoying the great outdoors.

we have a storm drain and an electric box in the back yard. The whole backyard is kind of elevated so that water goes into the storm drain. i called in the city folks to find out how much area in the backyard i can make it levelled and they gave me about 800 sqft to have levelled leaving the other are as it is. Do you think if i make about 500sqft of patio and 300 sqft as play area will increase the house value or it doesnt matter?

If it is not level and too small, that can be a turn off.
I would go for it and enjoy it yourself, then the next buyer will no doubt appreciate it.

I think it can, but you need to make sure it is cost effective. Buyers do want to enjoy an outside space, but for most buyers a place to BBQ and site with 5-6 people is enough to keep them happy in a mid range house.

There is a cost vs value report from Remodeling magazine here that might help you decide where to set the project budget.
