The only real issue with financing a log cabin (home) is whether or not there are comps in the area.  It is very easy to finance log homes in Montana, Colorado and Alaska...San Francisco, not so much.  Likewise in Murrieta...comps are not readily available.

We lend on log cabins regularly. They are harder to finance because there are less options, and more often than that less comparable sales. However if there are comparable sales there are banks that will accept a log cabin for the same pricing as a regular single family home.

Dear Murrieta Buyer,
Your best bet would be to work with a Realtor who is local to the "log cabin" location. All Realtors focus on their own neighborhoods, so a rural Broker will be in the best possition to direct you to a good lender who has financed such properties in the past.

It's been about four years since I've tried.  The because problem I had was that lenders were having trouble getting comparable properties.  So, I'm guessing it would depend on the area.
