I agree with the earlier answers.
Getting preapproved amounts to your "hunting license." Next, you need an experienced and reputable agent who can serve as your "guide" during your "hunt."
I recommend choosing an agent who will listen carefully to your wants and needs and who is exceptionally responsive so you have an edge over other buyers out there who may be competing for the same kind of property you want.

You may also want to check into seminars for first time homebuyers in the area that are offered.

First thing you need to do is talk with a lender and get pre-qualified. Then once you know how much you qualify for you can talk with a realtor to start looking at homes. Your realtor will walk you through each step of the process. Make sure you fell comfortable and trust your realtor. Try to find out from one your friends. Referrals are the way to go. GOOD LUCK and Happy Home Hunting!

O.K. Get prequalified with a mortgage professional. Meet with a Realtor in your area, if they ask questions and have time to work with you and communicate well you might have a good match. If you're not sure what you're wanting to purchase your Realtor should be able to show you the options in your area. Remember asking price is just that and have your Realtor prepare a cma on each property that you will be making an offer on. Then you will know approximate market value; you can offer below market but it gives you market knowledge. Once in contract to buy a property you have an option period, make sure to have your inspections done early in this period so you know any issues with the house(even if you buy new). best of luck, Jeffrey.
