Fella, it's hard to believe you are serious, when your post is so (um) lacking.  But in these hard times, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and believe that you are sincere about looking for work.  First, I would make sure that I had clean clothes and looked presentable when looking for work.  Shave, get a hair cut, look presentable.  Smile a lot.  Wash your work truck.  Get some inexpensive business cards made up for 20 or 30 bucks.  Have a cell phone.  Take your calls - DO NOT LET EVER LET THEM GO TO A VOICE MAIL!  That is $$$ calling!  Have your significant other answer for your and take the messages if need be.  Make up some simple flyers.  Drive around town and look for houses that need painted and go door to door.  Don't be scared to ASK FOR THE JOB!  Are they rentals?  Have your siginificant other find the owner throught the tax records online or at the county offices, and contact them.  If you find a house that needs paint&no one home, leave a flyer.  Spend a few more bucks and join the Chamber of Commerce.  See if you can get your info up on the bulletin board at the local paint and hardware stores.  Contact the local real estate offices and get to know those folks, they do a lot of unofficial referrals.  See about a free or inexpensive ad in your local throw paper.  There are a lot of ways to hustle up work if your willing to work - from the experience of one who has done it to keep the bills paid and food on the table.  GOOD LUCK TO YOU !!!

First learn to speak and write properly. Next do some quality work for a discounted rate or even free. Let the owner know your just starting out and have worked for a reduced rate in hopes of referrals. Provided you have done the work correctly and professionally, new work should start coming to you. Good luck and get Insurance

Our local paint store makes referrals and displays business cards and flyers of painters.  Contact realtors, remodelers, stagers, interior designers - if you have a license, insurance and portfolio of your work it is also helpful to get you in the door with new regular clients.
