Anything residential, that is not consider income property, i.e. multifamily properties will be valed using comps. Comps take into consideration what house similar to the subject property have sold for with similar features.

It is pretty simple information to get if you can get a local agent to run comps for you!

If you would like to know what your home is worth call a local realtor and they will bring you all the comps from the area and show you what your home is worth.

I'm not sure than anyone has ever found out what their home was "worth" on this website, as Zillow only offer's a machine opinion of "approximate" value.  See the FAQ "what is a Zestimate".

If one decides to use machine opinions... one method of getting a bit closer to "market value" is to obtain as many different opinions from as many different sources and methods as possible, throw out the top and bottom, then average the rest.

It still may be skewed for multiple reasons.

Here is a short list of some of the sites that provide free AVM's:

Realestate.com/homepricecheck

finestexpert.com

homes.com

Homesand.net

Eppraisal

realquest.com express

cyberhomes.com

trulia

chase

homegain

Zillow.com

(You have to type in the specific address regardless).

If you want to fine-tune Zillow's estimate using only the Zillow site, you might download data from the "Local Info" tab at the top of the page, normalize the trends for the specific property using averages of the estimates over time, or using the purchase price; or by getting the estimates of all similar neighbors and averaging those after correcting for differences in size or bedroom, bathroom count...

Regardless, you still only end up with an opinion of approximate value, that cannot take into account actual condition, changes, and specific amenities.
