With the advent of the internet, you can easily research the history of the
property with just it's address. If you are planning to buy the property however, the services of a mortgage broker or real estate agent is necessary because they can access (as long as they are certified), information you may find hard to come by, like the mortgage history of the house, equity, and if the area will one day be profitable for  you and not badly hit by the housing crisis.
