If you are going to be using bricks or stones for the drive way you are going to have to have a very stout base if you're going to be driving on it.

That maybe in the rim of a General Contractor in your area, but If you do
I would get some references on that because there is a lot a prep work involved in the base it also involves some compacting.

If you are doing this for the look you maybe better off looking into a contractor that does 'stamped concrete ' it is a process that involves (after a short wait time) placing plates over the concrete and the use of colored pigment dye.
The plate is then pounded into the finish which stamps a 3D effect which relates to; stone, bricks, cobble stones ...
This process looks great and if done correctly is hard to tell the difference between the real thing.
It would give you a better 'end' product that is a more 'drive on top of ' surface.

But that is something you will have to check unto locally where you are located.
