You can find an appraiser in your area here. Shop around. If you are only getting an appraisal to eliminate PMI, communicate that to the appraiser.
If you are getting a NEW loan, youll probably need to use the lender's appraiser or their AMC - appraisal managment company, and you usually can not pick your own appraiser.

removing PMI is done primarily through refinancing - in the process they most commonly use a 1004 (full appraisal) or a 1004C (full mobile home appraisal). I would contact appraisers in your area and question what they would charge for a full appraisal. A key thing to note as well - I would check with your lender before requesting from an appraiser that they perform an appraisal. Depending on the lender they may have to order the appraisal through an appraisal management company. You do not want to pay for an appraisal with one appraiser and the lender cannot use it because that appraiser is not approved with that appraiser managment company.

It all depends on loan amount. Are you purchasing a home or are you refinancing?
