The algorithms that county tax assessors use DO NOT INCLUDE ANY INPUT FROM ZILLOW. Never have and never will.
The notion of AVMs (Automated Valuation Models) is not new or unique to Zillow. Counties have their own systems that they adjust for specific issues in their taxing system. Insurance companies and lenders have also had their own AVMs that have been functioning for a couple of decades.
In every case the issue is how the output is interpreted. Only experience will give you a comfort level with any of them.

First off all you will need to registar for a Zillow account to make changes for your home. To get the most accurate price however you should have a trusted local agent in your area provide you with a complimentary Market Analysis. Buyers should never rely on a "Zestimate" as local markets tend to vary greatly making it much more difficult to obtain accurate information. On a final note you might want to make sure you are truly going to sell your home before adjusting your value online. If you adjust it upward and late choose to take it off the market your local tax assessor might use the information to increase your taxable value. Best of Luck

In June Zillow updated their algorithm and they have temporarily disabled My Estimate. You can see a summary of the changes in the FAQ section.
