Aaron,

The best option for you would be to contact your lender and see if they would be willing to modify your mortgage. Since they have an interest in your property already, they will most likely want to help you avoid foreclosure because the process is so expensive. Hope this helps, keep us posted!

Can you now afford the payments? When you received SSD you should have also received back pay. Is that enough to cover your back payments? If it is talk to the lender and pay the mortgage payments so you are up to date.

If you can not afford the payments the end result could be that you lose the house. It is a very real possibility. Knowing this could be coming I would go to your city housing authority and ask about section 8 (government subsidized) housing. This is a rental program that should be able to help you have a place to live.

You can also ask about general assistance and food stamps. Both could be a lot of help to you. Food stamps are federal while general assistance is from your local municipality.

So sorry to hear about your illness.

It is possible you may be qualified for a loan modification.   through government programs.
