The HOA dues are something you bought into when you purchase the unit. I am not sure if you have received the HOA package to date but  it normally contains all the rules associated with that dvelopment.  If there were outstanding dues before you purchase then those remain outstanding and must be paid.  Typically they are usuallly paid by the person selling the unit before title is conveyed.  If the auction company did not pay it then it would fall on you...You may want to check with the title or closing office that did the closing to see if all the arrears were paid.  Going forward you will be responsible for the monthly dues.  That as to be paid...no getting out of that.....

good answer by Rita.

It is also possible that NOT all the liens were paid off or that you will be responsible for any HOA assesments in the arrears.

There are a lot if "buyer be-aware" issues with buying a property at an auction.

Yes,  the HOA is your fee.  Check with the complex for the details. Where did you close.  The title company should have given you the rules of the HOA and the fees would be listed on your closing paperwork.  It is confusing when you are a new owner.

If the apartment is in part of an HOA you are responsible for paying the dues no matter how you bought it.

If you are asking if you are responsible for HOA dues that were in arrears prior to your purchase, that is much different.

With that being the case; if a lien was place against the property for past unpaid dues, that should have been found during the title search and subsequently paid off at closing in order to clear the title. If a lien was never recorded and the HOA is trying to get you to pay after you close, you may want to have your attorney get involved or talk to the closing attorney who just might be able to clear it up for you.
