Renting to buy is not likely a good option for you. In order to be qualified, you must have a substantial down payment. In addition, monthly payments tend to be higher than renting an equivalent property, with the excess of fair market rent going towards future purchase. Very few potential sellers are interested in "rent to buy" arrangements with individuals with a poor credit history.
Why don't you identify why your credit is poor, take actions to improve it, meanwhile save up a good downpayment and a good slush fund to ongoing home repairs. My suggestion is the traditional way to buy a home, and tends to work!
