I have heard the SAME information that Chad has given from a VERY REPUTABLE Loan Officer. I would have to give the same advice, it would be 3 years. You should rent in the meantime...ask your landlord to report your good paying habits to the credit bureaus (it's possible through services like Tenant Verification Services) this way your timely rent payments will help you, instead of just fattening your landlords wallet! LOL
