If your shed is a fixture to the real property as opposed to being a piece of personal property you taxes may increase.

As local person, I would really advise you to call the tax assessor's office 731-426-6063.  I've actually seen it both ways.  If you want to avoid having it added on, they should be able to advise you what to do/not to do.  Best wishes.

One should check with their local building department if a permit is required for a prefab shed.  Sometimes the building department requires the foundation to be checked.  And sometimes there are setback issues from property lines for these.

If no permit is required, then it won't affect your taxes.  If not "attached", it is often considered "personal property" instead of "real property" anyway.  Your local building department should know how it would be reported to the county tax assessor regardless.

If the "shed" you plan to build is more like a garage or shop, you do need a permit and it would increase the property taxes, and you may have size limitations, both due to limitations on lot coverage as well as square footage of ancillary buildings.  Again, check with your local building department.  They are there to help, and there is no cost for answering a few questions, nor even providing you with standard details.

It shouldn't, but you can always call your local assessor and ask if they tax small outbuildings separately. Most don't unless they are large or require a permit to build.
