is there a lean on my house?

was wondering if there would be a lean on the house, what if i bought it and there was a lean would i be resonisable for the bills they owe? If it is in my name and i owe a person the rest of the money for the house, and if there is a lean do i have to pay them can anything be done?

Usually in the buying process the title company and closing co ensure that all liens are removed from the property.  However, if you purchased the property through without ensuring title was free and clear, it is possible that you are responsible for liens against the property.

If you are having issues with this, it is prudent to retain an attorney.

Get a six foot level, hold it vertically against the wall. This should determine if your home has a lean.

A local title agent should be able to tell you if the home has any prior liens.

sawlindee: have you alredy bought the home? If so, yes you will be responsible for all prior liens.

If you are in the process of buying, you should get a title company, and get title insurance, this protects you against most prior liens.
