You know that zillow has property tax info on all or most homes .If that person owns the home there name should appear on taxes. if they are still paying for it, it might be a morgage company .My favorite saying ,When in doubt ,
throw it out.

The "owner" offers to send keys through the mail = SCAM
The "owner" wants to you wire funds = SCAM
The "owner" is off shore, out of the country, etc., and that is the reason they want to do things through the mail = SCAM

I also recommend not filling out the application until you have personally viewed the property.

I agree with the answers listed. Be weary and use your best judgement. Never send personal information or money to someone if you haven't already viewed the inside of the home with them. It's very easy to post a rental listing online. If they own the home, you could verify their identity against public records to who owns the home too. Good luck!

Thanks,

Never send money to anyone who has not met you at the property and shown you around the inside of the home. Never send confidential information ( your ssn) to anyone who advertises a home for rent and replies to you only in an email. If it sounds too good to be true and youre only getting email responses...we wary.

A lot of scams are going around nowadays where people use real estate agent's information. If I were you I would research all available communication options and try to talk to them. Call the company where that realtor works and verify that the agent works there and that it is his listing. If you can't verify that, be careful.

It looks legitimate on a first check. The phone number matches a licensed real estate agent. I would call them directly and talk to them. A current license and common sense will help you avoid many scams right up front.

Did you view the house in person?  Have you met the landlord?  If the home is being advertised by some individual (not an agent) and you haven't met them or viewed the home I'd be very leary.
