if i was able to buy a house for cheaper than i was approved for with my loan could i ask for slightly more than the house price  to purchase appliances for the house?

Talk with your lender, they are the ones with the loan.  FYI, in the past this would have been no problem.  We are in a bit of a financial crisis right now, maybe you heard?  Lenders no longer loan out more than what the house appraises for, period.  Talk with your lender, free conversation to have.Good luck.  Spirit

 There are some loans available with more money than sale price of the property - renovation loans. There can be different renovations included in loan: new appliances, like you would like to do to the big one - new septic installation. Talk to the mortgage specialist and find the one that may works or you.
