Whilst Zillow continue to be disrespectful in publishing an erronoeus zestimate after it has been brought to it's attention, and they refuse to deleted or correct it, then I will continue to post my opinion on the unfairness of what they are doing and strive to get them to change their approach in this regard.

Well, this conversation has become very heated... We are all posting on here trying to offer an answer to the contributors question. I do not work for Zillow. My goal is to let the contributor know that depending on what his motives are to get a value of his home there are appropiate avenues to take to get that precise information.
The only way to provide an answer why the properties did not have the same zestimate would require knowing the addresses and being able to research the sales of those 2 properties as well as any other sales in the neighborhood.
There is no need to post disrespectful responses. If you feel that Zillow is useless, why waste time on the site? Some folks find it useful and understand the purpose of the information here.

Just appreciate zillow for what it is, a tool to help you understand value.
Zillow doesnt determine value, you cant take zillow value into a bank and get a loan......take it easy. It does not make your home worth more or less.
Zestimates are based upon a computer compiling data, it will never take the place of a veteran real estate professional using tools and giving valuations based upon multiple tools and data.
Just appreciate zillow for what it is, a tool to help you understand value.

I couldn't have described zestimates better myself and all the nonsense responses from Zillow that follow the same pattern, just a starting point, zillions of bits of data, blah blah blah. They seem incapable of accepting any responsibility for how bad they are at managing complex data and consequently the zestimates they produce are riddled with errors and meaningless. But they are so arrogant that there is NO right of appeal when they screw up estimates. That has to change as it is totally unacceptable in any fair minded society.

If it's just a "starting point" you should start everyone from that point. Your response is ridiculous and makes no sense for communities where houses have the same square footage, lot size, features. Thanks for the lousy response. Fix your algorithms why don't you.

The "zestimate" can be confusing, you need to remember that it is a computer generated value that is formed from public information. The computer has no knowledge of fabulous the area is you may live in, or proximity to the park, or beach, privacy, etc. A true market value can be precisely figured by a local real estate agent with experience and knowledge of your area. A real estate agent can give you a market value, however if you desire an appraisal, you need to hire an appriaiser experienced in your area. A bank will not accept a market analysis for financing, they will only acccept an appraisal. So if you are looking for an agent to give you a valid market value of your home in todays market, find a local expert & give them a call! (Most of them will do a Comparative Market Analysis FREE of charge!) I hope this helps!

JG3, as the zillow support person said, they take town data & perhaps yours is classified differently then your neighbors...if you want a true analysis have an appraisal done or contact a realtor to give you a market analysis. That will give you a 'true' current market price.

Zestimate is just a starting point to know the home's estimated market value generated using Zillions of data. You might want to check the sold price history, tax assessment and the like. Since we don't check the properties personally, some factors that might affect the property's value is not included in the Zestimate.

my home has a lower zestimate than my neighbors with exact home. why?
