Your tax statement indicates the county's appraisal value of your property. Your property taxes are based on this value. If you think your taxes are too high, you can file a protest at your county's tax appraisal office.I would recommend contacting a local Realtor(R) and they can look up similar properties in your neighborhood. You can then take this information with you when you meet with the tax appraisal's office. Hopefully the comparables are lower than what your tax statement shows!
