I agree I do not like this way at all. It does not help in any way to find what one is looking for.

Does this thread still need sticky status??? The "new format" discussed is now an "old format" and is no longer even available. Many of the items discussed no longer pertain to the way the site works.

The year built shows in both photo&list mode as well as list mode.
If you are talking about the placement of the filters; yes, instead of all the filters remaining in the left column wasting valuable screen space, some of the filters overlap the map now, which simply means you press the "more" button, which is much faster than scrolling down to where the filters used to be located.
And no, Trulia did not copy Zillow's format, and Trulia's format will never be as useful as what Zillow provides.

Just go to Trulia.com. They have the format that zillow previously used.

agree...it is not as good as it used to be. - give specific feedback when you can on details that you don't like. It does seem to help.

it's getting better...look again they brought back a little of the old format.

I do not like this format at all. Too much info not needed and you deleted year the home was built from the initial screen. Change it back to the way it was.

Rachel....You may wish to Link directly to the Blog...
Right now the link you provide goes to the Zillow Blogs so you have to scroll through "Here's a Long Blog with pictures of a Property you'll never be able to afford" just to find the Blog about changes...

@ Rachel:
Some progress was made at restoring useful tools, but the map vs screen size is still ridiculous on my laptop. Yes, we can scroll, but as I see no hint of a list without scrolling why would I think it was there if I was a newbie? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have your programmers do some work with a netbook, or a 15" laptop.

I see that the format that so many have been asking for is back as an option. Up to 20 pages with up to 25 shown per page. Several sort options with the sort option pull down box.

I HATE this new format and I've been a Zillow fan. I'm thinking about looking for a new Real Estate website. What's the deal with the GIANT map ? It was so much better before.

Just press the "more" on the filters box to get the additional filters choices including single family, condo, multi-family, lots/land, by agent, by owner, foreclosures, new construction, open houses, price reductions, photos, days on Zillow, monthly payment range, sqft, lot size, year built, and keywords.
As for "sorting", just click the title above the column. Click the column title a second time if you want it reversed. For the far right column, you have a choice of 5 different things to show in that column (due to space limitations). Clicking on any of these sorts by that item as well as showing that item. Clicking on another column heading changes the sort to the new column selection, but leaves the data column selection for the last column as the one of 5 you had selected.
So, this allows you to also sort by price/sqft, property type, neighborhood, property tax, and monthly payment.
(And yes, there are ways to see all those 5 columns at the same time for a total of 15 columns, but that is a different issue).
So, you now have a choice of 28 different sort orders, not just the 7 you previously had. And as they are consecutive sorts now, you can have secondary and 3rd order sub-sorts as part of the sort results.
(It appears the only sort order that vanished is the "featured" sort (featured listings first), but it turns out that doing the "address" sort actually does the "featured" sort instead, and the numeric/alphabetic sort doesn't really work presently).

Also, is there a way to sort between single and multi family homes? It was pretty easy to filter the results and I cant seem to figure out how to filter them now.

I agree! Why does the map need to be so big and you can only see three of your properties in the list mode regardless of how big your screen is.

Select the "list" mode instead of the "gallery" mode and the list will scroll down, and it scrolls fine with the scroll wheel on the mouse.
That is an interesting comment about difficulty reading the bottom of the screen. I guess that is why many want to scroll things up to the middle or top of the screen...

Huge map with a tiny listing below which scrolls horizontally is painful. I am using a 24" widescreen LCD and its frustrating, sorry.

You corrected the issue with Zillow iPhone bug, but now ruined the web based version of Zillow. Sorry for the negative comments, this is downgrade is a step in the wrong direction.

Sharon, are you willing to give me data on 25 thousand homes?
What good is contacting a Realtor® if they know nothing about giving me data on 25 thousand homes, and the details of how I want to analyze them, especially as most of those Realtors® state that they know absolutely nothing about linear regression?
Besides, I already posted what I was looking for, and you still have not responded with anything even close to a match.

Some of these sites are amusing to play with but anyone who is serious about buying or selling should contact a Realtor in the area they're interested in.

Hi there, if you are looking for a home in a state you dont know anything about, contact a Realtor who is will give you personalized service.
Good luck on your move
Let me know if there is anything can do to help you. I have moved state to state several times and it is a lot to handle...good luck

Talk about frustrating. I am always open for change, but having a back ground in IT change control, this is a major change that common practice allows for users to beta test such dramatic changes, even if they are just cosmetic changes.
I agree. This format fails to support the need for quick search results. At the very lest, we should be given the option to choose what format works best for each users needs or purpose.

I don't like it either!
I need to quickly compare the photo with, square feet, price, property size and eventually an ability to see it on a map (which is not always as important.) This is way too awkward. There is a lot of blank space between columns in the list view, perhaps putting even a tiny photo in there would vastly improve things, especially for those of us with better visual memories. "A picture is worth a 1000 words" trumps "location, location, location" by a mile.
The gallery click to scroll is way to limited. Need a sliding scroll bar and basic info too. I like that sometimes clicking shows where it is on the map, or clicking on the map goes to the listing, but lots of times it doesn't seem to work.
All in all the old format was much friendlier and it was much faster to get a quick overview.
I still like the way you can search the whole state at once and I will probably still use that, but I'll probably look elsewhere for most searches. Besides, on Zillow, too many prices are off by a digit or two. I always have to check elsewhere to verify a price anyway.

OMG, don't change the format now! We're looking for a new home in a state we've never been to and this does not help. I can't use Zillow this way, it's so frustrating, why in the world did someone see a "vision" that this is better? Please at least give the option to do a list like the old way.

not nice what you just said to pasa..........and Jon, you do have a son - would he be proud to see how his dad conducts himself on a public forum?? - are you settingt an example for him to emulate??..........Seriously - it's not too late - why not rethink your actions and antics, and stop this nonsense, if not for yourself, then for your son.

How can you be given anything I wrote that doesn't exist?
I have had over 470 posts deleted on this site, which is more than anything you've ever written. It doesn't bother me one bit.
And what does that have to do with the format for the home search results on the site anyway? Isn't that "off topic"?
