The reason that a majority of homes in the Greater Las Vegas Valley will not contain a basement is because we have no frozen ground/frost depth in Southern Nevada. A home's foundation must exist beneath the typical freezing depth of the ground so that the freezing ground doesn't cause the house to heave upward...frozen ground explands. So, in many states that have a freezing depth that can extend 3-5 feet below the surface, its mor practical to have a basement since they have to dig down so low to make the foundation anyway. I mean, what's a couple more feet, right?
America West Homes is one of the few builders in town that had basements as a common building practice and particularly on the West side of Vegas. Hope this helps.

I would guess that sloped lots are a rarity in the desert.

You would like a basement near the strip in Las Vegas?

I don't think you'll find them there. It's not a standard in building like you see in the East or in the North. Basements are tough to maintain though. You will almost never see them in the region where I live since we are at sea level. I would look for a home on a crawl or better yet, a slab foundation. There's little or nothing you have to do to maintain them.

Basements are not a common thing in Nevada although some custom homes have them.

There are pockets of neighborhoods that do have basements, but it is definitely not a staple in Southern Nevada. Considering that you are typically paying on a price per square foot anyways, it is probably better money spent on living space or more rooms. If you are looking for additional storage, try looking for a home with a larger garage.

Not all houses have basements. Houses I look at on the West coast typically don't have them, while many houses on the East coast often do.

We do have some custom homes in Las Vegas that have basements. It is not common but there are some homes that have them. I am from PA where you had a basement. I miss having one. We have Casitas in Las Vegas.
