I have seen this and it was a scam. Contact local law enforcement for guidance

I'm so sorry to hear about your situation.

Was the property in pre-foreclosure? Have you stopped making your mortgage payments? If you have been foreclosed upon the bank is now communicating with the "occupants". If the letter contained the occupants names, at some point the bank had previously connected with them.

If the home has been foreclosed upon, and you feel this was in error, you may want to contact a real estate attorney for additional assistance as soon as possible.

The book the contributor was referring to below is here, regarding tenant/landlord rights. There is a section on foreclosure. http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook/catenant.pdf

Hope this helps.

There is some information on CA tenant law dealing with evictions and foreclosures on this site.

If you owe the bank past due mortgage payments, they can evict so the best thing to do is find out if you can make a deal with them to pay some to stay in your house or maybe get some help with moving expenses.
