property taxes in Delaware county pa why is it so high ??????

hi am tom i am considering buying my first home in the Delaware county area anywhere between lansdowne pa or drexil hill pa , am looking at homes that are priced very very  low but the taxes are very very  very sky high i also been driving through neighborhoods and observing how badly serious conditions some of  these homes are in  its scary , i been wondering is all there money going to school taxes thats why home owners cant fix there homes ?? my friend told me its  very difficult too sell houses  here because of this tax problem ,,, why are the property taxes  so high here ?? will this be a bad investment???  i  did the math average twin house =120,000 the  taxes =6,000 not including home insurance and monthly utility bills and costs of maintenance of owning a home lets say i was to live in this house 40 years shall we ,, 40 times  6,000 = $240,000 that's twice the price i paid this is nuts

Its not worth it. Residents are being gouged to pay for a failing school district with high costs due to people coming from west philly trying to take advantage of the situation by not paying the taxes to go there, putting in a fake address and mooching off of the locals. STAY AWAY FROM DELCO. Best thing people that just got into the mess is go into foreclosure. That way you arent burdened with the tax liability on top of that seemingly cheap mortgage when you cant sell your house.

Its because of the greedy school boards that are taxing the home owners very high now iam all for education and donations and school tax are a form of donation thats funds the school system but i dont understand what it got too do with owning a property and why you being forced to pay donations on property anyway , school donations that are 5-8 thousand dollars A year on a twin or row home that dont even have a reasonable land size are truly to high

Also keep in mind that you are paying for the easy commute into Philly.  You will find that a lot of towns around major cities have higher taxes.  Not all of Delaware Cty is in that boat and there are other townships around the perimeter of Philly that are reasonable as well.  If you would like to contact me through my profile, we can discuss your options and I would be happy to refer some realtors who know the area well.
