If you are not "associated" or promoting Facebook, why are you making the chance to win a new home exclusive to Facebook users?

Why would one want to go to facebook for that dialog when facebook has such a lousy privacy policy and Zillow's privacy policy is much better, especially as the dialog on those topics is better on Zillow's forum?

Zillow's Facebook community is a place where homeowners, buyers, sellers, and renters can dialogue about home related topics. We post daily and are careful to provide users with relevant and engaging real estate and mortgage content.

Just so that it is clear what one is "giving up" if one signs up for the sweepstakes... (from the "official rules"):

By participating in the Sweepstakes and/or receipt of any prize, each Entrant agrees: ... (a) the Sweepstakes, including but not limited to any Sweepstakes- related activity or element thereof, and the Entrant's entry, participation, or  inability to participate in the Sweepstakes;
(b) the violation of any third party privacy, personal, publicity, or  proprietary rights;
(c) typographical errors in these Official Rules or any Sweepstakes materials;
(d) acceptance, attendance at, receipt, travel related to, participation in, delivery of, possession, defects in, use, non-use, misuse, inability to use,  loss, damage, destruction, negligence, or willful misconduct in  connection with the use of a prize (or any component thereof);
(e) any change in the prize (in whole or in part) due to unavailability,  business or creative considerations, or due to reasons beyond Sponsor's  control, including but not limited to by reason of any acts of God, any  action(s), regulation(s), order(s), or request(s) by any governmental or  quasi-governmental entity (whether or not such action(s), regulation(s),  order(s), or request(s) prove(s) to be invalid), equipment failure,   threatened or actual terrorist acts, earthquake, war, fire, flood, explosion,  unusually severe weather, embargo, labor dispute or strike (whether lеgal  or illegal), labor or material shortage, transportation interruption of any  kind, work slow-down, civil disturbance, insurrection, riot, or any other  cause beyond any of the Facebook, and the Sweepstakes Entities'  control, or as otherwise permitted in these Official Rules;

(j) interruption or inability to access the Sweepstakes, the Page, an  Entrant's Facebook account(s), or any other Sweepstakes-related web  pages, or any online service via the Internet due to hardware or software  compatibility problems;

Odds of winning?

Who has any clue?  It will depend on number of entries.  It appears the home builder is trying to advertise to about 1 million Zillow users, with the hopes of getting about 350k of them to sign up for the sweepstakes, thus giving their info away for advertisement purposes.

Certainly, there is a lot of different issues going on that are not really that obvious:
1) Zillow's revenue is still primarily advertisements, and thus one would not expect Zillow to avoid allowing such ads.
2) Zillow is trying to build their facebook page "like" rating for SEO purposes.
3) The advertiser needs the "leads" their are purchasing in an easy to use electronic format, for mass marketing, and Zillow's privacy statement makes that difficult.
4) Even at 350k entries, that is still $1 per lead in addition to the advertisement costs, thus obviously the advertiser is expecting to sell some homes with this advertisement effort, and those homes have to be market up for covering the costs.  So, perhaps they can expect a 0.1% purchase response rate?  That would mean 350 additional homes sold.  That would mean about $1000 mark up to cover the advertisement give away, which most people would never notice.
5) There is nothing that prevents the advertiser that is collecting the leads from re-selling the leads to someone else, thus the advertiser may be collecting that advertisement cost many times over.

There has been a noticeable surge of advertising exclusively on Facebook since the privacy issue became public. Most drawings give alternative means to enter the contests, but not so with these lately.
Yes, Facebook does have a following that makes its use favorable to advertisers. But exclusively?  Associations are often more in reciprocal actions than actual contract.
If the advertisers are not promoting Facebook, then allow for email entries as they did before.

Well many companies use Facebook for their promotions these days, and all of them are not 'associated' with FB or directly promoting FB, I dont think Facebook need any more promoting. Its only a tool for those who use and like FB.

That said, it would be nice for Zillow to have a non-FB way to enter for the rest of us...
