I am in admist of searching for a home.
I guess it depends where you are. For example, I heard in some counties in Los Angeles the prices went up in the last two months. Outlying counties (e.g. Riverside), I heard, have lot further to fall.
To tell you the truth, if you ask this question to 100 people, you get 100 answers.

Now is a great time to buy. Sellers will give away their homes and banks are making deals on their REO left and right.

Brand new member asks a very generic question...another one comes on quoting 'the dreaded phrase'...I'm not falling for it again.

If you give us a clue where you are, the answers will be more specific.
How long do you intend to stay in this property? How much risk are you willing to take?

jim silly, wassup? have you been reading my fights with doomers! it is the new trend in zillow forum. doomers vs x-doomers! i am trying to post valid information and i get attacked by so called smarty pants :-)
five stars, just get your profile deleted or runaway from internet.
silent, if its any consolation, Randy also posts on another forum... several months ago, when he was writing offers, in and about marin, I offered my belief that it was waaaay to early, and we argued that there. But I think recent real events he has witnessed have obviously changed his opinion, were as yours seems merely to have changed because you now own... curious...

Wassup Silly observer? I've been reading. But like DebtsNMesses said, buying doesn't make you an x-doomer. I think there are only 2 true doomers left on these boards (who shall remain nameless). A true doomer profile:
NOT A REALIST (Azrob is a realist, so he's out)
Will fight real data tooth and nail to discount it. If it cannot be discounted, then you will have an ad hominem attack launched at you.
Revels and loves the fact that real estate is going down. Almost seems evily about the losses that people are having.
Doomers came from people being disappointed about real information, but a real doomer (the guy on the corner saying the world is going to end, nothing worth living for) are few and far between.

evily = evily happy
Revels and loves the fact that real estate is going down. = Revels and loves that fact that the economy is down across the board, with no regard for the family that is trying to make it. Inserts evil haunting laughs at the very thought of anyone losing money.

silent,
For what it's worth, IMHO, you've been struggling a bit because you've tried to transtion your view point of general market conditions based on your individual situation. Certainly understandable, and perhaps even natural.
I don't mean to be critical, it's just an observation. I like and appreciate anecdotal evidence, but even when you break things out into smaller geographic regions, it's the macro view point that's most important to the population at large.
But congrats on your purchase! I'm glad that you were able to take advantage of the better affordability that we're seeing in some areas these days.

Dear Jolina,
It really depends on where you are thinking of buying. Not every area has been hard hit by the mortgage crisis. As a first time buyer, there are many underpriced properties on the market.
email me if I can be of help to you.
jolina:
southern california is seeing swift price drops... wait a year and re-evaluate, we are no way near the bottom. read som
e of spacerace's posts, and look at his graphs... look at the colored lines, do they look like they are finished dropping to you? Also remember, that sleazeball realtors will say anything to get you to buy now, and earn a commissison for themselves... If they say something like "there are underpriced homes now" you know why...

Sellers will give away their homes
This statement is where you went wrong - This is untrue. There are many unrealistic sellers out there and won't consider lowering their price. First hand example, we put in an offer (before we realized the market is still free falling) only 3% below asking price and they wouldn't negociate. Crazy since the house was a fixer-uper. It still sits...

right time to buy
hello
anybody can advise me
regards
joli
