should i western union a rental deposit to a potential landlord just to see the inside of the house?

saw a listing on zillow rentals last week for beautiful home.  emailed and text the owner who asked not to deal with ageny anymore and asked us to western union the deposit to another person's name.  owner claims he's out of town with family and not able to show the inside of the home, but will fed ex the key once deposit is received.  love the house, but skeptical about authenticity of owner's claims.

Absolutely not!

Please read ZIllow's FAQ on scams and internet fraud before searching further for places to rent.

This is a scam. Period. There is not an owner in the world who would ask you to send a deposit for a key to see a property. Only scammers ask for money up front.

If you decide to carry through with this, contact me first and I will give you the address of my favorite charity to send the money to instead, you will be just as likely to get a key, and you can write this gift off as a tax deduction.

Do.
Not.
Do.
It.

It sounds like a scam to me.  I would look for something else.

I have a client that will be vacating a home in Apple Valley in the coming months (as soon as I sell him a replacement property) that will be renting out their home.  Feel free to contact me with your information if I can be of service.

Best wishes from So-Cal and good luck

It would be in your best interest to contact a local real estate office to determine who the landlord is and if the property is really for rent.
