It really is crazy that a person that tries to be responsible gets penalized. Most programs that come from the mortgage servicer do not consider you unless you are behind on your payments AND have a hardship(like a medical condition). Another avenue for you to explore is getting refinanced. Some of these government backed programs require you to be current on your mortgage. I would explore them before getting delinquent on your mortgage. I hope that helps.

You're getting very bad advice. Call 1-888-995-HOPE. If you meet the qualifications and can demonstrate financial hardship (ie reduced income), you'll qualify for a trial. not making payments is not a requirement.

You're are getting bad advice. The primary requirement is to demonstrate financial hardship. This does not require missing payments. call the Hope Hotline and talk to them about your situation. The can get you introduced with a fress financial counselor or to the escalation help desk to determine your qualifications and identify the nest steps.
Hope Hotline is 1-888-995-HOPE.

Yes before Banks wants to see some hardship before they could start on your modification. But, now you don't have to miss payment for Bank to do your loan modification. Continue to make your payment and on time if you could and send in all your papers immediately. Don't delay in getting your paperwork because there is a time limit for each process. Make sure you follow-up with a phone call at least once a week.
There is also a new refinancing program that is on the way and all it requires is to be current on your mortgage for 3 consecutive months. If your loan is Fannie Mae, no credit report is required but if it is Freddie Mac, credit score is required and also your loan-to-value (LTV).
