I don't know about Nevada, but in many states a tenancy without a contract or lease is assumed to be a month to month tenancy. One of the main risks you run as a tenant without a contract is not being able to prove residence or agreed upon rent especially if your landlord wants to evict or remove you as a "squatter" at some point. Even a simple agreement on a piece of paper to rent a specific address with a set amount of rent agreed on, date to be paid and signed by both people protects you from that.

what can happen if my landlord does not give me a contract to sign to rent his/her home
