This is interesting as it really varies from state to state and country to country. Mostly look for what value the agent brings, rather than commission.

As a REALTOR® I can tell you that ALL commissions are negotiable. Period, end of story.

Commissions are negotiable but the average is 6% - even split between buyers agent and listing agent.

Let's talk about The Sherman Act, an anti trust act that does not allow any agent to state there is a 'going rate' or average commission . Everything is negotiable.-by the agent and consumer...
thanks for posting this. Its good to keep this information in front of the consumer.

All commissions are generally negotiable between the seller and agent. Although some larger brokers would prefer that their agents accept listings that fall within a minimum percentage.

Federal law prohibits agents from discussing commission rates (due to the appearance of collusion and price fixing). But if asked, an agent will tell you what they typically charge to list a home. Just remember, all commissions are negotiable.

Bit of a taboo subject, but what I will tell you is 2 things:  Realtors are not allowed to discuss what other Realtors charge, and Commissions are negotiable.

Best wishes from So-Cal and good luck
