There are homeownership classes offered in many counties in NC to help you learn about financing a home. And the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency offers special financing and up to $8000 towards a down payment on new homes. The "low credit rating" is not as important as the "REASONS" for the low credit rating.

SO, what's going on? what're the reasons?

You can apply anywhere. Credit standards are about the same everywhere. 620 plus scores are recomended for an easy mortgage process.

The real question is who will do a good job describing the credit report. Who will do a good job pointing me in the right action direction. Who will do all of this for free or low costs?

Do you have an actual number for your FICO score?

If the middle of your three credit scores is <620, you may find it impossible to get a loan.    Now is an excellent time to understand what factors are affecting the score and work on improving it.
