After posting, I noticed the exact date of the satellite imagery is shown in google maps in the lower left corner of screen. In addition, there is a tool to scroll through a number of images over time (mine go back to 1980).
My guess of after Aug 17 was pretty close, it was Aug 18, 2011. And then I can scroll back to June 11, 2010 and see the tops of our heads as we're wheeling around loads of bark mulch.

In my neighborhood, google earth photo was after Aug 17 of this year, while the Zillow satellite image is 2007 or earlier.
where does zillow get its satellite map info from, it seems more recent than google earth
