You have to give out your social security number so we can pull your credit and review your credit liabilities and your ability to repay the loan. We go to great lengths to protect your personal information. If you just want general rate quotes it's not really necessary to give out your social but, the lender will need it eventually if you want to get pre-qualified through them.
