It is not only flash ads, it is also scripts; and some browsers are much worse than others, such as AOL or Google Chrome.

My "solution" is to use "FireFox" browser, and then add several "ad-ons":
1) Adblock plus (no filter subscriptions, create the filters as needed when the ads show up, use the wild-cards).
2) No Script.  (Allows blocking all scripts except those you specifically want)
3) Cookies Manager+ (this allows saving cookies that one might want to restore if deleted, and editing cookies.  There are some cookies on Zillow that are beneficial to regularly delete).

I have the same problem. Everytime I click on a house and go to the detail page my internet explorer wiill freeze up for a minute or two. If I wait long enough it will unfreeze but it makes going back and forth from the map to the detail pages very frustrating. I think it is due to all of the flash ads on this site, not sure. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
