why is the sq. ft. listing on zillow wrong?

the square foot listing on my house shows 1139 sq ft. but actually is 1589 sq ft.

I am guessing it is a split level and the county does not count your sub basement or below ground space. Raised ranch and split levels get short changed and that is where Zillow gets the figure from.

I can't address why, but I can give you some clues on how to correct it.

First, claim your home.  To do so, open the home details page (the one with photos), hover cursor over "edit" and chose "claim your home".

Once you've claimed it, then "edit home facts" (also in the drop down menu from edit) will allow you to correct the square feet.

You can go in your listing and edit the sq/ft. Just click edit listing and follow the steps from there!
