Goodinhouse:
We can't speculate on your friend/acquaintance. (Life ain't fair.) We can only offer clues for your personal situation.
What is your credit score?
If you can't get a credit card, do you know why you were denied?
If you have old negatives on your record, what are you doing to pay them off so they appear as "paid in full" on the record?
What size down payment have you accumulated.

Best advice I can ever give on subjects regarding personal finance is to go to the Dave Ramsey website, daveramsey.com
Lots of resources there, but the best thing is to listen to his radio show....you can listen to archives of the shows anythime you want....won't cost a thing.

goodinhouse123: I am sorry that you are not able to get the help or information you need. Maybe I can make a couple of suggestions that will help you in the short term.
Right now for lenders, there are many bits and pieces of information that need to be taken into consideration. Without that information, it is virtually impossible to give advice or offer a quote on a mortgage. The present challenging finance market has dictated this. Without more information regarding your personal housing desires and credit history, it's hard to answer your question.
If you would wish to give more detailed information through Zillow ... or write with that information ... I would be happy to answer your questions and research if any help is available for you regarding a mortgage or credit. Suggestions can also be offered for credit improvement and repair.
Please write with that information ... and then we'll move forward.
Thank you.

Normal hardworking people can have very respectable credit scores therefore can get mortgages. If your credit score is not sufficient to be considered, understand why and work to change the situation. A credit score is not a reflection of income, it is a reflection of use (and abuse) of debt and history there of. When you raise your score, it will be much easier to get a loan.

I would suggest posting a scenario on zillow and have one of the local lenders respond to you.
Good luck.
