your information is based on bad data..... how can i fix this?

Dear Zillow,

you have no one available to contact, and say your not "staffed up".  How is it possible to accurately analyze every address in the country and get it right with no staff to ensure things are accurate?  Answer: YOU CANT.

My home was purchased as a shell. (meaning: it looked like a house from the outside but has not one thing done on the inside)  I get these emails from Zillow stating that the value of my home fell another 35k however your info is not even close to apples to apples.  it is based on the shell value not the finished value.  your data is throwing off the real estate comps in my town and furthering a doom and gloom frenzie.  I find it hard to believe this is an isolated instance given the scope of zillows undertaking.  how do you fix this?  why should people take your service seriously?  I worked for a $350mm equity fund placing money in real estate all over the country and am well aware of the effort it takes to get these numbers right.  There is no way your basing your info on accurate data.

I have always wanted to visit Montana, but I've only gotten as far as Wyoming....As far as Zillow goes, you are right. They can't be accurate a majority of the time based on numbers alone. They do what they do based on the past sale, assessment, neighborhood trends etc. In some areas, this works better than in others by their own admission here. More standard areas of housing built around the same time with lots of comps that sell regularly work best for the numbers system that they use. As for your house, I would suggest that you claim your house here and edit your home facts to include your remodeling here. You can take your shell value and add the improvements that you have made. That alone will affect your Zestimate number. The home details updates will show up immediately, but the new numbers will take a few updates to work their way in to the system and your Zestimate. Zillow is not perfect. They do what they do. As an owner, you best bet is making sure your facts are correct, your updates are included and that Zillow has the best numbers to draw on to make your Zestimate as accurate as it can be within the limits of the system itself.
